Chapter 27: Never Letting Go (Part 2)

My body was slowly coming out of it’s sleep mode as the sun rays of the morning shun through the room. A soft thumping filled my ear whilst a warm arm had comfortably wrapped itself around my back, holding me close. I slowly opened my eyes, seeing only the texture of Zayn’s grey shirt moving up and down slowly with each breath he took. A smile automatically plastered itself on my face at the fact that as I woke up from hours of dreaming, the dream had still not come to an end. My reality was now finally better than the figments of my imagination that came alive in my sleep. I wished for nothing but more mornings like this simply being in Zayn’s arms that I was convinced was where I belonged.

I moved up my head to see his face to only find him gazing back down at me with a lazy half smile, “You’re awake!” he exclaimed, his smile now showing off his pearly white teeth,

“I am!” I giggled, stroking his stubble on his chin amused,

He stole a kiss from me quicker than I could realise and gently touched my cheek with his fingertips, “What would you like for breakfast babe?” he asked eyes smiling at me,

I grinned ready to pounce, “More kisses!” I yelled, pushing myself on top of him covering every inch of his face with my lips,

He overpowered me as he toppled me onto my back, hovering over my body and began to kiss me on my neck slowly, lingering every so often in between each kiss. My eyes rolled back in pleasure but was quickly interrupted by the loud rings of my phone.

Zayn’s head popped up and his thick eyebrows furrowed trying to recognise where the sounds had been coming from. He reached over to his bedside table and grabbed my phone, raising his eyebrows smirking.

“Oooh.. blocked number huh?” he waved my phone in the air, “Should I be worried?”

I rolled my eyes and punched his chest sending him to fall dramatically beside me as he acted like a 2 year old and took my phone to answer, “Hello?” I answered trying to avoid Zayn’s cheeky grin as he sat his chin on my stomach,

“Yes, hi! Is this Holly? Holly Hernandez?”

I didn’t recognise the tone of her voice, but I did recognise the accent. It was Australian.

“Uh yes, this is she?” I asked hesitantly, shoo-ing Zayn away with my hand in his face,

“Hi Holly! This is Susana from PriceWaterhouseCoopers, how are you today?” she cheered,

My eyes widened and my whole body instantly began to feel numb, nerves setting off everywhere. Could this be the phone call I had been waiting for for my whole entire schooling life?

“Oh goodness yes I’m very well thank you!” I replied trying not to obvious my excitement,

“That’s good! Well I’m a human resource manager here at PwC and we understand you have applied for our graduate job programme. I’m here to tell you that you have been accepted and we’d love for you to be on our team!”

I immediately stood up onto the bed, shaking uncontrollably, “What? Oh my God!” I cleared my throat quickly, realising I probably was not sounding very much of a profressional and deepened my voice, “Thank you! Thank you so much! This is wonderful news! Thank you!!”

Zayn stood up onto the bed in front of me doing all sorts of weird movements trying to get me to explain what was happening. The smile on my face would just not go away as I repeatedly slapped Zayn on his arms not holding back my happiness, leaving him to guess the situation in great suspense.

She laughed, “We’d like you to start as soon as possible. How’s February the 1st sound?”

Without thinking, I uttered my answer straight away, “It sounds perfect! Thank you so much again!”

“Great. We’ll email you the details and we’ll see you then! Have a nice day!”

“Yes, you too!”

I hung up my phone and threw it on the bed, grabbing Zayn’s arms digging my nails into them unintentionally and began jumping up and down as I screamed with excitement, “ZAYN OH MY GOD!!!!!! OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!” I squealed,

His face was written with confusion but he let out a laugh and joined me in my jumping, “Why are we jumping?! What happened babe, who was it?!”

Tears of complete and utter happiness began pouring out of my eyes as everything I had been working hard for for all these years had finally paid off. Years of endless nights of reading books, pages and pages of workings of equations, numerous exams that I always had thought were going to be the death of me, all finally paid off in this very moment. I had scored the job of my dreams that was for sure going to be the start of my successful accounting career. Shit just got real.

“I GOT THE JOB ZAYN!” I finally managed to get out, still very much shaking, “It was the H.R. manager from PwC and she wants me to join their team!” more squeals released from my voice box uncontrollably as the feeling was too surreal to grasp,

Zayn practically leaped at me, equally sharing my happiness and grabbed my head into his hands kissing me repeatedly with pride, “I’m” *kiss* “so” *kiss* “proud” *kiss* “of you!” *kiss kiss kiss kiss kiss*

My giggles were unruly as his lips smothered me continuously, not stopping for at least a couple of minutes.

“You don’t understand how much this means to me Zayn,” my tears still occupying my eyes, “I’ve worked so hard to get to this job and now it’s finally happening! PwC is the world’s largest accounting firm and to be apart of this I just..”

He wiped away my tears as it was clear I could not find the words to finish off my sentence. He picked up my hands, holding them with a smile so kind and eyes mirroring love, “I am so happy for you babe. I am sooo happy!!” he brought me into his arms again and I comfortably laid my head on his shoulder blade, instinctively receiving a kiss on the forehead. I could not believe how perfect life was getting. Zayn and I were back to normal more determined to never hurt the other again and when it was time to board that plane home, my future was waiting for me to finally begin.

I pulled back a little so I could now see his face and smiled, “They want me to start on February, 1st!” I beamed,

His eyes drooped as his eyebrows seemed to view in disapproval, “Wait what?” he asked,

His sudden change in enthusiasm bewildered me, making it hard for me to signify what I needed to clear, ”..February the—”

He cut me off, “Yes I know babe, the 1st, it’s just..” he looked down biting his lip and sighed, “It just means that you actually have to leave..” his eyes met mine again clearly reflecting the heartbreak he felt inside, ”..leave me.”

Those last two words began to linger in the midst of the silence that had now overtaken between the two of us. My heart felt like it was being twisted and beaten. The rush of excitement and pure joy from the phone call had made me forget that February 1st was merely a few days away and it had meant that I really did have to leave. I knew I had to leave soon but with this new opportunity, it had cemented my departure away from this life I had grown too attached to for a new life that was now awaiting me.

“I-I..” my mind found it too difficult to seek for the right words to say as I stuttered repeating the same letter,

Every time I met his eyes it made me break twice as hard as it did the last time deep inside. I didn’t want to be without him. Why was that even an option? We had just started anew without his broken past and now life was taking that away from me? I did not want to accept this. I wasn’t going to.

I looked down at the bed and searched around looking to where I had thrown my phone earlier, “I’ll call her back right now!” I insisted spotting my phone then diving for it, “I’ll tell her I don’t want the job anymore!!”

I picked it up and began browsing through the internet to find a phone number I could dial before quickly being tackled with Zayn’s strong arms, snatching my phone away then holding it in the air above me, taking his height difference to his advantage.

“Holly, no! Stop!” he pinned me down with his right arm, “I’m not letting you throw away your future like that!”

I squirmed furiously around trying to break free from his hold, “I don’t care Zayn! You mean more to me than a stupid job!”

I genuinely meant that.

He rolled his eyes and threw my phone across the room so that he could now hold me down firmly with his two hands, “You’re not calling her.” his eyes were now staring intently into mine, narrowing, “Because I’m coming back with you.”
